Compliance works best as a regular tune-up, not a once-a-year box you check and forget.

With so much changing for nonprofits right now, SVCN is teaming up with Melissa Hollatz, the attorney behind the Nonprofit Protection Project (NPP) at the Law Foundation, for a one-hour session on the 5 things every nonprofit should have a handle on: housekeeping basics, information management, filings, employee matters, and external risk & relationships. Practical and needed, whether you're in great shape or not sure where you stand. You'll also leave knowing who to call the next time a compliance question comes up. 

The Nonprofit Protection Project is a free legal resource for Santa Clara County nonprofits, and this is a chance to meet the attorney directly.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
  1. Spot where their own organization carries the most everyday compliance risk
  2. Walk away with a short list of concrete things to check or update
  3. Know what NPP's attorney can help with directly, and when to loop her in, so legal support becomes part of their regular practice instead of something they only think about in a crisis.

Melissa Hollatz Attorney

Melissa Hollatz is Senior Counsel leading the Nonprofit Protection Project at the Law Foundation of Silicon Valley. With nearly three decades of legal experience, Melissa specializes in corporate law, providing pragmatic advice to help organizations navigate risk. Prior to joining the Law Foundation of Silicon Valley, she was a corporate partner at the law firm of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where she advised leading technology companies on a broad range of issues.

Melissa is dedicated to supporting nonprofits, including co-chairing the Pro Bono Committee at WSGR for over a decade and serving on the board of several nonprofits. At the Nonprofit Protection Project, she leverages her broad background to provide critical pro bono legal counsel, helping local organizations navigate complex operational challenges. Her leadership ensures nonprofits remain resilient and fully focused on their vital missions.
